Brian began his professional life as a graphic artist and art director in Boston, Massachusetts. Realizing he wanted to be a fine-art painter, he moved to California to pursue that dream. This took him to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he was not only a student but later an instructor for many years. Brian now paints full time and is primarily a Plein-air painter
