Curt Walters
From the day he first painted Shiprock from the roof of his father's barn in New Mexico nearly 20 years ago, Curt Walters has been inspired by the grand landscapes of the southwest. Uncompromising in his approach to plein air impressionism, Curt paints mostly on location, capturing his observations of nature as they are affected by light and atmosphere at a particular time.
A limitless supply of favorite landscape subjects takes Curt throughout the four-state Colorado Plateau area and especially to the Grand Canyon, which he has been painting for more than a quarter of a century. In 1994, he was commissioned to create a painting to commemorate the Grand Canyon's 75th anniversary. The result, a 30"x60" oil titled National Treasure was presented to the Secretary of the Interior and the National Park Service, and is now part of the Grand Canyon Association's fine art exhibit.
As an occasional diversion from Southwest subject matter, Walters takes painting sojourns along the California Coast and to Europe, especially Italy and France. Most recently, he visited Switzerland and the French Normandy Coast, where he and a number of other noted landscape artist were guests at the Forbes family's Chateau de Balleroy. The resulting paintings were exhibited at the Forbes Gallery in New York.
Curt Walter's paintings are included in such celebrity collections as Christopher Forbes, Merv Griffin, Robert Urich, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Kareem Abdul Jabor, and Frank Borman.
