Ken Requard

Ken Requard

Ken Requard is an emerging impressionist oil painter of innovative landscapes.  Ken wants to take the viewer on an exciting visual journey. He combines strong values and design with vibrant colors with a multi-layered approach resulting in texture and unique color vibrancy; He loves nature, particularly the Sonoran Desert where he has lived since 2005. His works attract the viewer's eye from a distance and reveal intricacies up-close. From dramatic dawn to surreal sunsets, from bubbling blue brooks to soaring red cliffs, from scrub bush to saguaro, from aspen glow to blue spruce, there is a drama everywhere in the American west. Ken seeks to capture the essence of that drama. He tries to leave enough mystery in the painting that viewers have the latitude to let their imaginations write their own stories.
Ken's painting "contain immediacy and a sensory experience in which a viewer can feel the air, the heat of the desert, or a cooling stream." Ken relies on painting outdoors to influence his studio work. Painting outdoors is a challenge but worth the effort. It is more than merely getting the colors and values correct. It involves the total sensory experience of that place and time. Ken is also analytical in his assessment of the landscape. He believes that a successful work of art reflects the underlying design within nature. He thinks of these elements like the bones in our bodies. They are not visible but without them we would have no form or function.
0 Ken's oil paintings reflect his extensive past experience as a watercolorist and pastelist. Ken is active in several Plein Air Painting groups and has won awards in two Plein Air competitions in 2018. His watercolor works have been in multiple national juried shows including the "National Watercolor Society" and the "National Audubon Society". His oil works have been in numerous juried shows including shows sponsored by the "American Impressionist Society" and the "National Oil and Acrylic Painter's Society." Collectors include the Batelle Corporation and the Westinghouse Corporation. He has published two articles in "The Artist's Magazine."
